NEW
to Pole?

New to pole dancing? Welcome! We hope we can be a foundational part of your pole dance journey, whether that's just wanting to come dance or achieve your big dreams of aerial tricks. Here are a few questions we commonly get from beginners:

What if I don't have upper body strength?

We hear this A LOT. We all start somewhere. We work on safe progressions to help you build the strength required for the movements we work on. There are multiple levels to many moves, so we have multiple options to regress and progress as needed. Fun fact: our owner couldn't do a single push up before starting to pole dance. With consistency and work, we can all progress.

What should I wear? Do I need to bring anything?

For pole classes, short athletic shorts and a short sleeve athletic top are a good go-to to start. Pole requires our skin in order to grip. That's why you'll see gals wearing shorts and a sports bra and guys in shorts. Without our skin grip, certain movements would be incredibly difficult to achieve. Speaking of grip, be sure to avoid using lotion before your class. It will make the pole extremely difficult to grip.

Bringing layers such as long pants, socks and fabric knee pads are good to have on hand. For classes like Floorwork, knee pads are a must have. Feel free to bring anything else you would bring to exercise, such as a water bottle. We have cubbies to place any items you bring.

What should I expect for my first class? What classes can I take as a beginner?

If it's your first time at the studio, be sure to arrive a little early to give ample time for you to settle into the space. The door to the building will be unlocked 10-15 minutes before the start of your class. Once class starts, the door is locked and you will not be able to enter. Your instructor will have you fill out a waiver. We have cubbies where you can put items and you'll be asked to remove your street shoes once you're in the studio. The instructor will walk you through the space, showing you where equipment such as cleaning rags for the pole are located. Class starts on time, beginning with a dynamic warm-up, then it'll move into what you'll cover in class and end with a cool down.

Any Pole Tricks 1 or Pole Dance 1 classes are appropriate classes for pole beginners. Tricks classes focus primarily on specific moves, whereas dance classes teach a level-appropriate choreography. Our Floorwork, Mobility & Conditioning and Bendy Babes classes are appropriate for all levels and are great complements to the work you'll do in pole.

During tricks classes, your instructor will demo the movements you'll be working on and then walk around the class helping students as they work through it. We have a maximum of two students per pole, eight students total per tricks classes. During dance classes, your instructor will break down the choreography in chunks. You'll get ample time to practice each segment before moving on to the next. We have a maximum of two students per pole, six students total per dance classes. The class will work on the choreography in two groups.

How do I get to PDC? Where do I park?

We're located at 1007 W. 24th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108 with our entrance on 24th street. You'll find a red door with our logo on it. This door is unlocked 10-15 minutes before the start of your class time and is locked once class begins. It is crucial to arrive on-time. Parking is available along 24th Street, Bellevue Ave and in the parking lot in front of Core Strong Fitness (we share building space with this gym).

This all sounds great! Where do I sign up?

You can sign up and pay for classes via the Mindbody app. You MUST sign up online. Space is limited. If you need to cancel a class, please be sure to do so three hours before the start of class. Classes cancelled within three hours before are considered a late cancel and will not be refunded.
